Since its founding in 1913, Delta Sigma Theta has clearly distinguished itself as a public service organization that boldly confronts the challenges of African Americans and, hence, all Americans. Over the years, a wide range of programs addressing education, health, international development, and strengthening of the African American family have evolved. In realizing its mission, Delta Sigma Theta provides an extensive array of public service initiatives through its Five-Point Program Thrust.

As an organization of predominantly African American women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is uniquely positioned to impact not only the well-being of its membership, but also the families and communities we serve. Thomson Alumnae Chapter Physical and Mental Health Committee strive to encourage wellness in our sorority and the community. The committee offers a variety of opportunities and events that promote healthy living for our members and people in our service area. The Physical and Mental Health Committee offers a myriad of creative programs designed to proactively raise awareness on major health and wellness concerns that disproportionately impact the minority community. We partner with major organizations that work toward the eradication of diseases and illnesses that affect the human condition.
Social Action was the Sorority’s first act of public service. Twenty-two college-educated women felt compelled to take a stance, join a national movement, and march for women’s right to vote on March 3, 1913. Over 100 years later, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority continues to step up and speak out against the social issues that impact the African-American community locally, nationally, and internationally. Thomson Alumnae Political Awareness and Involvement Committee has charged its members to be involved and empowered through affecting change at every governing level. We are committed to identifying and addressing critical issues and legislation that can potentially impact lives of our members and our communities.
